Race to Choose
a. Romans

Roman is a good race for beginners, and if you are in an advance stage
of the server, (the server is older than 6 months old) you will see the
difficulties to be a roman player… Roman is a good race in myth, but if
I have to choose Romans will be the last race that I will choose.
The following are the advantages and disadvantage of Roman:

O> Advantages:
a. Pratorians is the strongest defender against infantry in the game (crop wise -> based on crop).
b. The building and resources field being build simultaneously.
c. The chief and firecatapults is said to have a bit of advantages than other races.
d. Imperians is the strongest attacking infantry unit in the game.
e. They have the strongest wall bonuses.
f.
Equitas Caesaris relatively faster to produce compared to Haeudans and
Teuton Knight. This can make up some ground of the slow build of
imperians
g. Blacksmith has greater effect

O> Disadvantages:
a.
Pratorians being the strongest defender against infantry come with it's
price, a very expensive armoury upgrade, an expensive producing cost, a
slow producing time, and a slow traveling time (very bad for immediate
needs of reinforcement).
b. Imperians, being the strongest attacking
infantry, is very expensive in blacksmith upgrade, producing cost, and
it takes a very2 long time to produce imperians (almost 2x axefigter
time).
c. Equitas Imperatoris is only good in terms of raiding, other than that, it's a very cost waste unit.
d.
Equitas Caesaris, in a short look, you will say that they are the
strongest cavalry. But, in reality, they are the worst (looking at the
attack power and the crop that is consume) cavalry unit compared to
Gauls's Haeudans and Teuton's Teuton Knight.
e. They have a moderate
speed of merchant, which only carry 500 resources per merchant, which
makes transferring resources from 1 village to another a hard work).
f.
The long time and expensive cost of producing the troops, will ends up
killing yourself when u lost all of your army in a war.
g. Romans
wall might have the strongest bonuses, but, it's very easy to crumble,
which makes in ineffective to defend against a big enemy troops with a
big number of rams.
h. Equitas Legati like Gauls's pathfinder eats 2 crop per hour.
i.
They have the worse defensive unit against horse in legionnaire. It can
be said that it's hard for them to fought an incoming attack using
cavalry without the helps of their gauls or teuton friends.

Troops power based on crop consumption of Roman will be discussed
intensively n WD and DD sector. In conclusion, you should only choose
Roman race, if u are not that active (u need the simultaneous feature),
your alliance need the use of pratorians to balance the number of
teutons player, and you know how to balanced the strength of imperians
with the crop problem Equitas Caeesaris. Other than that, Romans is the
race that u should avoid.

b. Gauls
Gauls is the race that most people avoid. I don't know what the reason,
but in my point of view (yes I am a gauls player) gauls is the most
balanced and complete player in the game. It can be said that Gauls is
the best race along with teutons in the game (depends on the playing
style).
The following are the advantages and disadvantage of Gauls:

O> Advantages:
a.
Druidrier is the second (2nd) best defender against infantry in the
game, but, their speed is incomparable with Roman's pratorains.
Druidrier is the fastest defender unit in the game. In most cases,
although its defensive ability against infantry is only 2nd best to
pratorians, the speed of pratorians that is as fast as gauls chieftain,
will make most player choose to be reinforced with druidrier than
pratorians.
b. Haeudans is the second (2nd) best defender against
cavalry unit after Teuton's spearfighters. But, in terms of the speed
to reinforce the target, makes haeudans the 2nd fastest defender
reinforcement troops after its counterpart druidrier.
c. Phalanxs is an overall defensive troop, although it's an infantry unit, their speed is on top of other infantry unit.
d.
Haeudans is the second best offensive cavalry unit. They comes second
in terms of crop effective after teuton's Teuton Knight.
e. Swordfigther comes in 2nd after Romans Imperians as infantry attacker in terms of attack power and crop consumption.
f.
Their troops is the fastest troops in the game, makes gauls a very
demanded defensive troops. And their overall troops is a balance troops
as, their cavalry and infantry defend and offend is at overall best.
This makes gauls become the most balanced troops in the game
g. The
merchant carries 750 each and has 2x the speed of teuton's merchant,
making them more effective than teutons in transporting resources.
h. The 2x cranny size feature give them a huge advantages at the early stage of the game.

O> Disadvantages:
a. Not many players are willing to use their haeudans to defend other player, as it's too expensive to die in defending.
b.
Troops producing cost and producing time, is more expensive and slower
than teutons (although they are cheaper and faster than romans)
c. Pathfinder eats 2 crop per hour.
d. Trapper is a useless feature for gauls.
e. Most gauls player will struggle with lack of raiding troops @ early stage of the game.

Troops power based on crop consumption of Gauls will be discussed
intensively n WD and DD sector. In conclusion, it is strange that gauls
is not a popular race among player. Their troops status, makes them
able to survive in defending by themselves (roman need teuton's
spearfigher and vice versa). In offensive they are also at average best
as their troops power is balanced between infantry and cavalry
(infantry stronger than teuton weaker than roman, cavalry stronger than
roman weaker than teuton). It is recommended than an active and
experienced player to pick gauls as their race, although a different
playing style will suit some players with teutons

c. Teutons
Teutons is said the best raider of the game, and their offensive power
is superior in number, but a bit lack in quality. Most experience
player will choose Teuton as their race, as their raw power is just
amazing.
The following are the advantages and disadvantage of Teutons:

O> Advantages:
a. Spearfither is the best defensive unit against cavalry in the game.
b. Teuton Knight is the best offensive cavalry in the game.
c. The producing cost of teuton troops is relatively cheaper than the other 2 races.
d.
The speed of producing their troops, makes teutons a favorite race in
the game. Their producing speed is relatively faster than the other 2
races. This makes teuton player has an advantage in terms of troops
number in a war.
e. Earthwall, has the best reliability. Therefore,
it blocks enemy attack (that didn't have a huge number of rams)
effectively.
f. Each merchant carries 1000 resources.
g. Scout only consume 1 crop per hour.
h. They have an excellent raider at early stage of the game in the form of clubbers.
i. 2/3 crannies plunder, is very useful at the early stage of the game.
j.
In Wonder of The World stage (last 2 or 3 months of the server), most
big player will have more cavalry unit than infantry, makes teuton's
spearfigther a more useful units than roman's praetorians.

O> Disadvantages:
a. Teuton wall has the least defense bonus, despite it's excellent reliability.
b.
Teuton has the worst defensive against infantry unit in the game. It
can be said that it's hard for them to fought attack using infantry
troops without the helps of gauls or romans player.
c. The horse troops are slow compared to gauls and romans horse. This makes raiding takes longer time.
d. Axefighter/Axeman is the weakest offensive infantry unit compared to Roman's imperians and Gauls's swordfighter.

Troops power based on crop consumption of Teuton will be discussed
intensively n WD and DD sector. In conclusion, Tutons is the most
common race in Travian. This is because their excellence in raiding in
the early stage of the game, and their strong offensive power in number
at later stage of the game.
2. Offensive Player (WD -> War Department)
Most
players in Travian, is an offensive player. Here is the Troops
statistic for Offensive player. Remember the troops that are written
here is for offensive troops and not raiding purposes, hence the carry
capacity and speed is ignored.

The following is the stat for cavalry offensive troops
Rank--Troops--Raw Power--Crop--Effective Off Power
1 Teuton Knight--150--3--50
2 Haeudans--140--3--46.67
3 Equitas Caesaris--180--4--45
4 Theutas Thunder--90--2--45
5 Equitas Imperatorians--120--3--40

From
the table can be seen that romans offensive horse is not as strong as
it seems, and teuton has a big advantages from the other races, with
gauls being the 2nd strongest with their haudans.

The following is the stat for infantry offensive troops
Rank--Troops--Raw Power--Crop--Effective Off Power
1 Imperians--70--1--70
2 Swordfighter--65--1--65
3 Axeman/Axefighter--60--1--60
4 Clubswinger--40--1--40

From
the table can be seen that romans offensive infantry is the strongest
from the other races. Again gauls troops is in the 2nd place, followed
by 2 teutons offensive infantry.

As can be seen from the two
table, Gauls is the balance race, while Roman is strong with their
infantry, and Teuton is strong with their Horse.

A normal
offensive player will have the following proportion of combination of
troops (This proportion can be changed depends on the resources
availability):
a. Roman: 5 Imperian : 2 Equitas Caesaris
b. Gauls: 5 Swordfigther : 2 Haeudans
c. Teuton: 5 Axeman : 2 Teuton Knight

Finally,
it's about rams and catapults, a normal offensive player must have a
considerable amount of rams and catapults. This number is considerable
with your total offensive army size. But, a good big player, usually
has a minimum of 20000 infantry, 7000 horses, 500-800 rams, and 500
catapults.

A very strong point:
an offensive player, must only produce their troops in 1 village, which
is the capital (capital cannot be conquered). An exception, is when you
lost all of your troops, and your pop is around 15000, where u can
build your offensive troops in other village than capital, and use the
feature of Great Barracks and Great Stable. And it is important that an
offensive player has a level 20 blacksmith, with all their offensive
troops enchanted with it.

3. DD (Defensive Player)
A
total defensive player is incommon in Travian. Yet I live in this area.
A total defensive player must have the eye to determine which one is a
real attack which one is not. Playing defensively is much more
complicated and much harder than playing offensively. More strategies
about defensive player will be discussed in the next session. The
following are the defensive troops strength against infantry and
cavalry.

The following are the stat of defensive troops against infantry
Rank--Troops--Raw Power--Crop--Effective Def Power
1 Pratorians--65--1--65
2 Druidrier--115--2--57.5
3 Paladins--100--2--50
4 Phalanxs--40--1--40
5 Leggionaire--35--1--35
6 Equitas Caesaris--80--4--20
7 Equitas Imperatorians--65--3--21.67

As
can bee seen in the list that praetorian is a very strong unit against
infantry followed by druidrier, and paladin followed up the list. It is
important for defensive player to build pratorians or druidrier or
paladins as their def troops against infantry. And it can be seen from
the list as well, that legionnaire, Equitas Caesaris and Equitas
Imperatorians is a pathetic defender.

The following are the stat of defensive troops against cavalry
Rank--Troops--Raw Power--Crop--Effective Def Power
1 Spearfighter--60--1--60
2 Haeudans--165--3--55
3 Phalanxs--50--1--50
3 Leggionaire--50--1--50
4 Equitas Caesaris--105--4--26.25
5 Equitas Imperatorians--50--3--16.67

As
can bee seen in the list that spearfighter is a very strong unit
against cavalry followed by haeudans, and phalanxs or legionnaire
followed up the list. It is important for defensive player to build
spearfighter or haeudans or phalanxs or legionnaire as their def troops
against infantry. And it can be seen from the list as well, that
Equitas Caesaris and Equitas Imperatorians is a pathetic defender.

As
can be seen from the two table, Gauls is the balance race, while Roman
is strong with their defense against infantry, and Teuton is strong
with their defense against Horse.

A normal defensive player will
have the following proportion of combination of troops (This proportion
can be changed depends on the resources availability):
a. Roman: 2 pratorians : 1 legionnaire
b. Gauls: 3 druidrier : 3 phalanxs/1 haeudans
c. Teuton: 1 paladins : 2 spearfighter

A
very strong point: a defensive player, can produce their troops in
multiple villages. And it is important that a defensive player has a
level 20 armory, with all their armory troops enchanted with it.

4. How to Defense
Defending
an attack is the hardest part in Travian, if it's only a single attack
to one village it's much easier to defend rather than a single real
attack followed by tons of fake attack (fake attack, is an attack using
only 1 troops). The following are the rule to defend an attack:

a.
Find out the type of attack, is it only a horse only attack, a infantry
only attack, or catapults attack, or even an attack in an attempt to
take over your village. This is all can be seen from the travel time.
The easiest way to find out, is to check how long does ur infantry or
horse or catapults troops needed to reach the attacker village. If the
approximate time is the same with one particular attack (horse only,
infantry only, or catapults), then we can measure what def troops
needed to be prepared.

b. Decides which of your villages has the
highest priority (in case of multiple attacks to many of your
villages). Only defend the most important village except the alliance
has spare defensive troops. This is what you should do, if you cannot
find out which one is real or fake attack. (About real and fake attack
will be discussed bellow).

c. Inform you alliance, if u have the right to send [ally] IGM, send an [ally] IGM, else, contact the officer in charge.

d.
Make sure u have a decent size of granary and wall. Some notes on the
granary, 80000 of granary size is not enough for important villages.

e.
Some additional information, in case that u cannot predict what kind of
troops the enemy is attacking (when u online, the attacks is already
there for some times ago, or it's a catapults attack) It's better to
put a defensive troops with a proportion that is given above.

Following
the rule, next is the hardest part, this is how to find out if an
attack is real or not, and how to do some insert defense. (If you
cannot understand or learnt this, it's alright. It's a hard technique
that is hard to implement):

O> Inserting
Inserting
is the best technique to minimize the damage against a far superior
attacker. Inserting technique is a very good technique if the attacker
attacks with more than 3 waves. The essence here is to get the def
troops between the 2nd and 3rd attack (why it's not 1st and 2nd? A
smart attacker will put a fake attack in the 1st attack, and big troops
in 2nd attack, and catas or senators on the 3rd ,4th ,5th, and so on)

Now,
how to do it? It's not easy. As I said before it's a very hard
technique. A very good attacker will only put 1 second different
between the 1st and the 2nd attack, and so on. So, this is what u must
do. When there is incoming attack, there is the arrival time (e.g.
05:30:02). Then, what you should do is to make the reinforcement arrive
@ the same time as the 2nd attack wave. Remember this is not easy as
you have to predict the internet delay as well (each computer
different, usually it's around 1-4 seconds). If you have a very fast
internet speed, then the delay might only be 1 second.

This is
how you do it. To find out the delay u can do it with multiple trials.
Now, for an example, let's say that your internet delay is 2 seconds. U
see in that the 2nd wave of attack arrive @ [10:10:15], then when u
want to send your reinforcement, u must press the OK button, when the
arrival time of reinforcement shows: [10:10:13].

O> To find out fake attack
This
is a very hard technique. It's based on your own experience and the
rhythm of the attack. Even a good and very experienced player will have
difficulties in finding out the real attack and fake attack. In a big
war, a single attack can be deemed as fake attack (except if the
attacker is a noob). But waves of attack, might be a real attack.

In
the case that there are waves of attack to multiple villages, then look
at the timing, the fake attack, is the attack that is not well organize
(the different between first, second, third and so on is more then 2
seconds each). But again, this is just a general rule. All of this is
dependant on the skill of the attacker.

Waves of attack, from different villages to non-capital villages can be
deemed
as senators attack. Anyway, to find out which one is real which one is
fake, it's based on your ability and experience to face other player.
5. How to Attack
Attacking is not my area of specialty. But, this is the standard attack that can be deemed as a good attacking strategy. (credit to Edragon in s4, tthawu in s2) for giving me a complete guide on how to attack)

O> Attack Strategy
When
you attack a target, you must send fake attack to each of his village
with the same amount of wave, and a good attack wave is a maximum 1
second different between the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on. To get 1
second different between each wave is not easy. The easiest way is to
open new windows.

O> Sending Attack Waves
When
u want to send 5 waves of attack, click on rally point, then right
click on send troops, chose open a new window, do it 5 times. Then put
the big troops on the first window, and put the following troops that u
want (catapults or senators) in the other 4 windows, and click OK once
in each of the windows. Now, u need to make ur window small, with all
the OK button on view. Then hurried up press all the OK button from the
first, second, third, and so on window.

O> Catapult Target
It
is essential to have a level 20 rally point, so that u can destroy 2
building in 1 attack wave. In a 5 attack wave you can destroy 10
buildings. The buildings that need to be destroyed are: Mainbuilding,
granary, warehouse, market place, and all crop fields (6). That's a
total of 10 targets.

O> Attack speed or time
When
u send waves of attack, it's important that u have a look at the time,
the one that I mean with this is that, if u send catapults in the first
wave, then each of the waves must have at least 1 catapult, this is to
avoid one attack arrive much earlier than the other. In short, you must
put the slowest unit in each of the attack wave. For example, first
wave: 10000 imperians + 2000 EC + 200 rams + 100 Catapults + 1 Hero,
then 1 second later u must put at least 1 catapult there. Else your 2nd
wave attack will arrive earlier than your first wave attack (e.g. 100
imperians + 1 catapults + 1 senator).
The steps regarding how to
send waves of attack with 1 sec different between each attack is
explained above under the "Sending Attack Wave" heading

O> Rams
Rams
is the essence of any attack. Wall gives a huge bonus to the defensive
player. A decent number of rams, will destroy the wall, hence, make you
troops stronger and bigger chance of victory. It is important to notes
that the more the rams, the faster the wall goes down. And remember
palisade, earth wall, and city wall has different strength against rams.
1000
imperians + 100 rams vs 700 praetorians with level 20 wall will win the
war, but, a 1000 imperians without rams vs 700 praetorians with level
20 wall will be slaughter.

O> Attacking Oasis
It's
a good idea to attack oasis during a massive attack attack to the
targeted player. This makes the defender confuse, and a succesfull
attack, will give the attacker a lot of resources. This is also a good
idea to starve the troops in the heavily defended village. You will get
10% of the amount of resources and crop that is in the warehouse and
grannary of the defended player

O> Rain of Fire
Again,
this is not easy, but a good technique. Another addition to that, there
is a strategy called rain-of-fire (RoF). In a Rain of Fire, is
basically send fake attack to all villages of the targeted player 24
hours a day 7 days a week, when he let his guard down, then send 1 or 2
real attack. The real attack here is only a small portion of your
offensive troops (1000 infantry + 100 catas) to supply unimportant
village. Then some of the big player in the alliance could send a
big-bang attack.
This strategy is very good to destroy supply
villages, and makes the defender confuse, and cannot analyze the
incoming big-bang attack correctly.

6. Heroes
Heroes
is the most doubtful area with a lot of discussion. There are 3 type of
heroes based on your playing style. Total defensive, Total offensive,
Balanced.

a. Total Defensive Hero:
A
total defensive hero, to have this kind of hero, it's better if you
build your hero from (druidrier or haeudans for gauls, spearfighter or
paladin for teutons, Equitas Caesaris or pratorians for Roman)
The skills that need to be increased in order are:
1. Health Regeneration 5-20 points
2. Def-Bonus 100 points
3. Defense 100 points
4. Health Regeneration till 30 points
5. Up to you, if u have more points

b. Total Offensive Hero:
A
total offensive hero, to have this kind of hero, it's better if you
build your hero from (haeudans for gauls, Teuton Knight for teutons,
Equitas Caesaris for Roman)
The skills that need to be increased in order are:
1. Health Regeneration 5-20 points
2. Off-Bonus 100 points
3. Offense 100 points
4. Health Regeneration till 30 points
5. Up to you, if u have more points

c. Balanced Hero:
A
Balanced hero, to have this kind of hero, it's better if you build your
hero from (haeudans for gauls, Teuton Knight for teutons, Equitas
Caesaris for Roman)
The skills that need to be increased in order are:
1. Health Regeneration 5-20 points
2. Def-Bonus and Offense Bonus alternating till 100 points each
3. Health Regeneration till 30 points
4. Up to you, if u have more points
7. Capital
The
new version of Travian (Travian T3) you can upgrade the resources field
in a capital. It is wised that u must have a 15 cropper for a capital
for a offensive player, while defensive player can take 15 cropper or 9
cropper as capital. To set your new village as a capital, you only need
to build a palace, then click on the set as capital link.

A very
good offensive player, will try to get a 15 cropper capital, with a
crop oasis around it. The best capital of the game, is a 15 cropper
with 3 oasis around it that can produce 50% of extra crop. At the later
stage of the game, that capital can produce +/-95000 crop per hour
(including 25% GOLD) with all the crop field is at level 18. It's a
very rare capital, but, a 15 cropper capital with a total 100% crop
oasis around it is considered to be good enough.

For a defensive
player a 9 cropper capital is okay, as, defensive player will most
likely lost their troops, and having a 9 cropper capital will helps a
lot in re-producing more troops. But, a 9 cropper with less than 50%
crop oasis around it, is not good enough to be a capital, even though
you are a defensive player.
